DescriptionCambridge College of Arts opened on 1 Nov 1858. (Cambridgeshire Technical College and School of Art, from 1961 Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology) At a meeting in the Town Hall a decision was made to set up a Government School of Art to provide, in particular, for the training of draftsmen and artisans. The School was established in premises in Sydney Street and transferred to more suitable rooms in the Town Hall after the first year. In 1884 the School of Art amalgamated with the Cambridge University, Town and Country Fine Arts Association.
