Messuage or tenement below. 24 August 1860. Recites mortgage in £200 and 5% interest. 1. Thomas Walters (mortgagor). 2. Thomas Head of Barkway, Hertfordshire, publican (mortgagee). 25 August 1860. Recites will of Thomas Head (died 11 December 1860). To wife Sarah all estates which should or might be vested in him at time of his death upon any trusts or by way of mortgage. Wife appointed sole executrix. Will made 24 October 1860. Will proved by principal probate registry. 6 April 1861. Later Sarah married George Cane of Barley, Hertfordshire, publican. Recites: reconveyance 1. George Cane and Sarah his wife (late Head, widow). 2. Thomas Walters. Both parties married since 1 January 1834. 2 December 1870. a) Freehold messuage (now used as a beerhouse and a portion of which in the rear is now converted into a brewhouse) in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. Abuts NW High Street, NE next estate heretofore of George Wood, afterwads of William Wood, and now of Thomas Walters, SW estate heretofore of John Smith, afterwards of James Ranson and now of James Oliver. WITH outhouses, buildings, stables, dovecote (now used as a cellar or beer warehouse), cattle and other sheds, henhouse, front and side gardens, yards, etc. EXCEPT a small portion of ground lying at SE extremity of the yard and heretofore used as a roadway to adjacent close of land (see plan in margin of deed). b) As regards the brewhouse; all the brewing plant, utensils, implements, fittings and effects used in the trade or business of a brewer carried out there (listed in detailed schedule). c) Interest and goodwill of 1. as a brewer. CONSIDERATION £650 paid by 2. to 1. 9 October 1872.
