TitleWorkhouse administration: inmates.
DescriptionCreated by the Workhouse Master and then the hospital administration. Workhouse Masters were responsible for the inmates of the workhouse as a result of the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834. The provision of institutional accommodation for the destitute poor became the responsibility of the County and County Borough Councils after the Local Government Act of 1929.
