TitleLeighton Bromswold manor: release
DescriptionRelease of the manor of Leighton Bromswold together with the advowson and the prebendal mansion house and other lands. A lengthy deed with twelve parties, but basically between (1) Charles Earl Conwallis of Suffolk, the Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry, Henry Lakin, William Harrison and Josiah Flavell all of Warwickshire, and many other individuals, and (2) Henry Lord Porchester of Southampton. Contains a schedule of the manorial estate, including tenants' names, names of the individual properties, acreages, annual rents, and occasional observations (eg "An exceeding good New Farm House and Outbuildings"). The deed is physically attached to an earlier deed of 21 April 1786, a power of attorney granted by (1) Charles Earl Cornwallis to (2) his brother James, the Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry, as Charles would shortly be sailing to the East Indies.
