| Title | Letter to the Duke of Manchester, from Sir Digby Mackworth, National Club |
| Description | The Conservative Committee have been afraid to commit their interests to so young a man as Lord Mandeville and yet it was a very near thing. He was second only to Mr Caudwell. Mandeville has manifested so decided an inclination to enter Parliament that it would be inadvisable to check him in it, especially as it is in such harmony with his high station. Huntingdon would seem the natural choice but Cambridge Borough are keen to have him. Bringing Mr Caudwell forward is considered an adroit maneouvre by Sir Robert Peel. |
