DescriptionThe property of Littleport Town Lands Charity comprises a messuage called the Guildhall and 27a. 2r. These lands were conveyed upon trust, 1747, by Aungier Peacock to Thomas Prior and others, the rents to be used for the relief of the poor in Littleport parish. By the Bedford Level Act 15 Ch. II, 2 messuages including the Guildhall were allotted 75a. and 82a. 3r. copyhold of the Manor of Littleport. The rental came to £230 p.a. in 1837 which, after expenses, was dispensed in cash, coals and clothes to the poor. By this period there were also 21 tenements belonging to the parish which were inhabited by paupers rent-free.
