DescriptionUntil 1835 turnpike trusts were entitled to a portion of the statute duty for road repair from parishes. Much of this statute duty was commuted to a financial payment, the compositions below. Persons not wanting to do their duty paid a fine to the surveyor, recorded in the lists of neglects below. All lists record parishioners' names.
