DescriptionThese newspaper cuttings cover all aspects of the councils activities documented by the press between 1933-1982 excluding years 1950-1962. The volumes are numbered on the spines and show that volumes 1-7 are missing, indicating that volumes were kept for these years but have not survived. Articles have been cut out of local papers and glued into volumes or onto paper and then fastened into ring binders capturing the name and date of the paper from which the article has been taken. The stories include, but are not limited to, coverage of council and committee meetings, building, housing and town planning developments, opinion on boundary extensions, slum clearance, details of fatal accidents and some coroners inquests, advertisements for new byelaws of public health legislation, new parking schemes, council budgets and spending, preservation issues, election of new mayors and tributes to outgoing mayors, extreme weather conditions, fires, and WWII coverage on air raids and precautions.
