TitleLetter; T. Wright Vaughan, Knightbridge, to 7th Earl of Sandwich.
DescriptionLays before the Earl the resignations of the officers who have replied to the circular; all, excepting the surgeon. There is now no hindrance in proceeding to fill up all the vacancies. Hopes that the Earl can secure retirement pay for poor Lieutenant Brown. Will inform Mr. Tillard of the Earl's opinion about his brother, the Ensign, and will mention the vacant Lieutenancy. Believes that the words of the Act will bear out the meaning of 2 companies with a Captain to each, where the number exceeds 60 for each company. Enclosed: 1) Copy of a Letter Smithson W. Greene, Huntingdon, to Captain J.G. Green. Resigns his Commission of Lieutenant in the Huntingdon Militia. This does not have any connection with his appointment as Paymaster, under which designation he has been placed on the retired list by the Secretary at War. 29th December, 1845 2) Copy of a Letter Orby Hunter, London, to [Captain J.G. Greene] Requests that Colonel Vaughan will accept his resignation from the Militia on the grounds of ill health, and will offer the resignation to the Lord Lieutenant. 29th December, 1845 3) Copy of a Letter R.H. Tillard, Hastings, to Captain Green Declines to serve as a Subaltern, but would serve if he were granted a Company. 2nd January, 1846
