DescriptionReturns Mr.Sidney Herbert's letter. Has written to Mr. Browne about it, requesting his opinion as to its suiting him. Enclosed: Letter Sidney Herbert, War Secretary, War Office, to 7th Earl of Sandwich. Discusses the case of Lieutenant Browne. Colonel Vaughan has proposed that Browne should be allowed to continue in the Militia and in receipt of his disembodied allowance, but should be excused from attending training etc. This is not possible. However, it may be possible to allow Browne a commuted allowance for 2 or 3 years, if a medical certificate confirming ill health is produced. 17th January, 1846
