|Letter; Colonel G.W. Waller, Assistant Adjutant General, District Office, Colchester, to Colonel the 7th Earl of Sandwich.
|Referring to the future Territorial organisation of the Army, under which 2 Militia Infantry Regiments only will be apportioned to the 33rd Sub District of Bedford, informs him that since the Hunts. Militia has 4 companies, the proposal has been raised of converting it into either Artillery or Engineers. Seeks the Earl's views on this proposal for the information of the Major General Commanding. Any opinion of the Earl will be considered with a view to submitting it for the favourable consideration of H.R.H. the Field Marshal Commanding in Chief. Attached: Copy of the reply of the 7th Earl of Sandwich to this letter. Gives a variety of reasons why the regiment should keep its present organisation. 5th May 1881
