ActivityGeorge Montagu, 9th Earl of Sandwich (1874-1962) continued the family's close association with the Conservative Party, sitting in the House of Lords for over four decades in addition to his spell in Parliament representing Huntingdon from 1900-1906. During this time he has only one recorded contribution to debate, but did serve for the first half of his tenure as one of the Parliamentary Private Secretaries. Outside of parliamentary politics he took an active role in governing Huntingdonshire as both the Lord Lieutenant and Chairman of the County Council and was a patron of art and heritage institutions.
